A personal tribute from Renee Godoy, founder of Friends of First Responders to her friend, Fire Chief Kazuo Todd:
While we as a community are grappling with the shock and sorrow of losing our beloved Fire Chief Kazuo Todd so unexpectedly – there are many of us who worked with him professionally but grew to love him personally because of the kind of leader that he was. I was honored to get to really know him when he became Fire Chief and I often worked alongside of him at community events. We shared joys – like the blessings of new fire trucks and celebrating departmental promotions or award ceremonies. Chief Todd was a very gifted and humorous speaker at all of these events and enjoyed honoring others. We shared sorrows over tragedies, worries over critical incidents and grief over valued co-workers that were lost too soon.
A memory that I will treasure in my heart forever is the thoughts that he shared at my recent surprise 70th birthday celebration. As busy as he was that day – Chief Todd made it a point to attend and to share such loving thoughts towards me with everyone there. In addition – the most thoughtful gift I received was a plaque that he made himself. On it he engraved some very beautiful sentiments that I shall treasure forever.
Chief Todd, I will miss you dearly and cherish you in my heart forever. We have lost a dedicated public servant and I have lost a dear friend. Until we meet again……
Fire Chief Kazuo Todd
